Hi all,
After turning 31 in July, I just wanted to share some life lessons. I have read other blogs, and often times people will share “28 Life lessons for my 28th Birthday,” or something similar. I think we never stop learning, and rather share the best life lessons I have learned by my 31st Birthday.
- Protect your peace at all costs. If it costs your peace, it’s too expensive.
- You’ve survived 100% of your hardest days so far.
- You will never always be motivated, so you have to learn to be disciplined.
- The iceberg theory. Only a small portion of something is visible or apparent, while a much larger and often more significant part remains hidden beneath the surface..
- Resilience is built, not born.
- Healing and growth are not linear. Some days you’ll be thriving, others surviving.
- You don’t have to have it all figured out. No one really does.
- Stop waiting for motivation; build discipline instead.
- Your body keeps the score. Stress, trauma, and neglect show up physically, listen to it.
- Sleep is non-negotiable.
- You are allowed to cut family out of your life. Do not feel bad about it. Family can be chosen. Blood is not the only bond that matters.
- Say “no.” Saying no is an art. It’s powerful. Don’t feel bad about it.
- Create for joy. Not everything needs to be shared or monetized.
- You don’t need to get it right on the first try.
- You won’t regret being kind.
- Make peace with your past so it doesn’t poison your future.
- Let your life be your masterpiece.
Sometimes it really is the simple things…
… that bring you the most peace in your life. Simplicity is often the key to joy. Romanticize normal things, a cup of tea, a walk, the sunset, a deep breath. Make it sacred. Disconnect from your phone/the online world. Go on a walk, enjoy the scenery. Be grateful. Even when life is hard, there’s still beauty. Disconnecting from my phone is the simplest thing that I do (I still spend way too much time on it). It’s the simple life that brings the most joy for me.
Until next time,
– k.
